Resources to Help You Run Amazing

Have you signed up for one of the races during Our Lady of the Lake Children’s Hospital Amazing Half Marathon Weekend on March 11 and 12? The event features kids’ races, a 5K, 10K and half marathon, providing a great opportunity for everyone in your family to participate.

Preparing for any race requires dedication and planning. Check out our blog on seven must-do’s for training. There are lots of free programs available online, no matter the distance you’re running. For weeks, individuals have been preparing for race weekend with our local partner, Varsity Sports, which leads various free training programs. They are a great resource to use to get you ready for any race weekend. Learn more here.

These training plans are also an important because they are designed to help your body slowly increase the amount of mileage it can handle in preparation for a race. If you try to cover too much distance too quickly, or at too rapid of a pace, it can lead to injury. Be sure to listen to your body and take rest days.

There are a lot of great physical benefits involved as well. You can find out some of the perks running brings to your brain, heart, muscles and bones when you start running here. It’s also a great way to keep your kids healthy. Curious about how your child can safely train for a race? Learn more here.

If you haven’t registered for this year’s Our Lady of the Lake Children’s Hospital Amazing Half Marathon Weekend, it’s not too late! Sign up today.

Not able to run this year? You can raise money by running virtually through peer-to-peer fundraising to support the building of our freestanding children’s hospital. You can also volunteer during race weekend – see the full list of opportunities here.
