Volunteers help patients heal

“One thing that I love about my volunteer work with Our Lady of the Lake Children’s Hospital is the powerful, unmatched sense of purpose that I receive each and every time I make a sick child or worried parent feel better or crack a subtle smile. There is no other feeling like it in world. Love is a powerful healing force in our lives; volunteering helps me give and get love in return.”

Research is now showing that when our patients and families participate in non-medical activities with our volunteers, they actually heal faster.

In some cases, they feel less pain and need less pain medication. Our kids get up and out of their beds and move around quicker. They’re less stressed — and that goes for the parents too.

Volunteers make Our Lady of the Lake Children’s Hospital special – providing that extra magic every children’s hospital needs and thrives on. As a volunteer, you will offer smiles and comfort helping make the children’s hospital feel more like home as families navigate serious illness or injury.

The work our volunteers do is incredibly important, and we are so thankful for them.
